Uchino

//Prologue || START\\

// Another Start \\

Narrator:"Our story starts with a young man as he sits in the back seat of a very uncomfortable ride, watching the bright city pass by the window."

Driver: "You know" the driver stated with a groan, "You're the first person to sit in the back of this car."

Narrator:"This caused our viewpoint character to roll his eyes as the driver clears his throat before continuing"

Driver: "You're lucky to have been picked up by me, kid. Could have been pretty much anyone else... That's right, you could have beaten half to death in that alley for that stunt you pulled back there."

Uchino:"I didn't do anything."

The young man mummers, his hood laying across his shoulders.

Driver: "Well, that's what all you people say, now isn't it. I didn't do it, didn't do anything at all, even if you got all your super-tech video recordings along with three months of audio evidence of you planning your actions... Still somehow, you get off.. I just don't understand it."

Uchino:Letting out a sigh, he sits back, his wrists beginning to ache from the tightness of the cuffs around them.

Officer: "You know kid, we're almost at the station.. Got anything else to say, go ahead and say it now, because once we're in there, I can't do nothing to help 'ya."

Uchino:He gives no response as he feels the car begin to lower, beginning to come to a park

Officer: "Alright then.. I tried." *The officer grabs his radio and says a string of words that mean nothing to the viewpoint character. Finally he gets out and opens the door, saying "Now don't you think about doing anything else, you here?"

Uchino:Getting out, he follows the officer into the station before being told to sit in a large, chaotic room with other cops and 'criminals', where he feels as though hours pass, even drifting to sleep in his chair at one point before a man stops just a few feet away.

Detective Murakami:"Damn it, Uchino!" The man called out, the badge around his neck revealing his name to be Murakami, a highly praised, but little liked street detective who takes a seat next to Uchino who gave a jump at Murakami's yell

Silence fills the space between them as Murakami thinks on what to say, during this time a female officer stops as she passes, offering him a steaming cup of what is likely coffee, asking him as she motions towards Uchino

Female:-Cop "Latest catch?"

Detective Murakami:"Nah, but he's about to catch something, that's for sure." The cop gives a smile

FemaleCop: "Ah, friend of yours. Well then I'll leave you to it, Murakami, just remember we got to fill this paperwork out by tomorrow."

Detective Murakami:"Yeah, yeah, my work will get done. Go and bother Brant, he's the one who likes to go off chit-chatting during hours." With a wave of his hand which returns to his hair, swiping it back just for it to fall back over his face, the female officer takes her leave

"Alright, kid."

Murakami stands up and takes a sip from his cup as the original officer that brought Uchino in stops and begins saying

Officer: "Alright kid, let's go. Got a cell ready for ya' back here."

Detective Murakami:The detective looks over to the officer and holds up a hand, wagging a finger at him

"That's alright, I'll take care of him, Phon."

OfficerPhon: "Y-you?" For some reason this causes Phon to break out into a loud, obnoxious laugh "You'll take care of him, you can hardly take care of yourself, Murakami, no, no, I will take care of this."

Detective Murakami:"No, that's perfectly fine, Phon, I got this."

OfficerPhon: "Murakami, I'm the one who brought the kid in, I think I can do the rest, just go back to your pen in the back office there."

Detective Murakami:"Phon, I'm already agitated from seeing his face, now it's two in he morning, I've had hardly any sleep for the past two days and this non-sweet coffee isn't doing much to improve my mood, now shut up and find something else to waste your time with. Uchino, get your ass up."

Uchino does as he's told, allowing Murakami to uncuff him, tossing them to Phon as the officer stumbles to catch them before giving a push to Uchino and saying

"Wait for me by the door. I gotta tell my partner that I'm taking you home."

Uchino:Again, doing what he's told, an officer behind the desk looks to Uchino and gives him a smile and a wink, saying

Officer: "Good luck Uchino. He's in a particularly bad mood today."

Uchino:This leads to him giving the officer a nod before Murakami rejoins Uchino and leads him out. Not saying anything all the way until they've gotten in his car, and even then, waiting until he's started to let out a scream

Detective Murakami:"AUHH! God damn it! You stubborn, insolent idiot! That's it, this is the last time I'm bailing you out! That's the fourth time in a week! A week, Uchino! How?! How can you fuck up that much?"

Uchino:He knows saying anything now will just make things worse and decides to bite his tongue, giving out a bit of a sigh and looking out the window to see the morning sprinklers are beginning to turn on

Detective Murakami:"Oh, no, don't you give me that!"

He responds to the sigh

"I am the one who should be doing that, not you! What'd you even do this time? Huh? Were you doing that beyond reckless building jumping or whatever you call it again? Was it another fight? What. The. Fuck. Did. You. Do?"

Uchino:It takes a minute as Murakami stares at him, waiting, but he finally answers

"I was trying to stop a mugging."

Detective Murakami:"A m- well look at here, we got ourselves a hero. A mugging you say, okay, Uchino, tell me how that went?"

Uchino:"I thought it was a mugging. Turned out just to be a dope deal. They didn't like me interrupting it and a fight happened."

Detective Murakami:"There we go, fighting. How could I ever have known? It's not like you don't just go out looking for the stuff, right?"

Uchino:He rolls his eyes and looks away

Detective Murakami:"You know, for someone who so adamantly talks about their disliking of heroes, you certainly do your best to die like one."

Uchino:"Heroes don't exist. You're the closes thing to a real life hero, and who are you? A friendless wife beater who lost his punching bag to another man."

Detective Murakami:His brows raise as he says

"Oh, really? So that's how it is?"

He too looks away as Uchino glances over

"Well you keep that mouth up and I'll have another punching bag, how about that?.. A friendless.. You wanna know what happened to my friends?"

Uchino:"They left you alone because you're an asshole who takes things out on everyone and everything around him, expect for what he should take it out o-"

Uchino is stopped as he gets hit in the mouth, stunning him for a second

except*

Detective Murakami:"You shut your fucking mouth. My friends died doing the right thing. Everyone of them, including, believe it or not, your father. Now I'm the closes thing you have to a parent, and despite neither of us liking it, it is my job to watch after you, and that's what I'll do. I won't baby you like your mother, but you're safer right there than with those wastes of life you call your 'friends'. Bunch of dumb asses who go around, jumping across and breaking into buildings for a moment of fun, but you know what, if a damn Waru- thing started to attack you, everyone of them would abandon you, run, crying and scatter like roaches."

Uchino:He licks the blood from his lips and looks away, saying in a deeper, shaky voice

"Yeah.."

Detective Murakami:Finally he sets the car to lift and begins the journey home, giving a long pause to their conversation, letting an air tight tension rest between them for several minutes before breaking with a

"I'm sorry for hitting you."

Uchino:"It's whatever."

Uchino says, still looking away

Detective Murakami:"You're right. I am an asshole who takes things out on the wrong people... But I guess that's one of the few things we have in common."

Uchino:He has no response, instead just repositioning himself in his seat and putting his hands in his hoodie's pockets

Detective Murakami:Another minute or two passes with silence before Murakami breaks it again

"Alright, look, I-.. I got a favor I can pull with a... A higher up friend. That Yukojiin that's reopening; Chikara Dojo or something another. I can get you in there."

Uchino:He looks over to Murakami in confusion

"The hell are you going on about?"

Detective Murakami:"You'll have to leave all your 'friends' behind. Start an entirely new life up there. It's opening late next year, I'm sure my friend can squeeze you in."

Uchino:He gives Murakami a look down

"I'm not about to restart my life for no school, besides that's on the other side of the city. I won't have you bail me out of trouble down there."

Detective Murakami:"Third times a charm, right? Look you've only been down here for four years now, you can't have gotten anything going that you can't drop for a chance like this, now stop being hard headed and just say you'll go."

Uchino:"To a school that claims to breed what society calls 'heroes'? A bunch of douche-bags with a god complex because they think they're special for using their eaftousia whenever they please? No, I'm good with my roach friends."

Detective Murakami:"And what do you plan on doing? Huh? 'Cause that power of yours doesn't have too many uses without a special education."

Uchino:"I don't know, I'll figure it out.."

Detective Murakami:He let out a breath in aggravation

Uchino:"Maybe I'll follow in your footsteps, become a cop."

Detective Murakami:He gives another breath

"Don't even joke about following me... And we both know you'd make a terrible cop, 'bout the only thing you'd do good as is one of them Shishibuki, and you know what? An education like this school would go a long way in your employment... Besides, cops aren't heroes.. At least not anymore."

Uchino:"Thought we already went over the fact that I don't wanna be a hero."

Detective Murakami:"Oh, you wanna be a hero."

Uchino:"No I don't."

Detective Murakami:"Yeah, you kind of do, and that's one of the many ways we differ... Just like your father, always doing the right thing.. Even when everyone told him not to."

Uchino:He peers down for a second before looking over to Murakami to see his eyes glistening

"What's wrong with you today? You keep bringing up the hero stuff."

Detective Murakami:The car begins to slow as Uchino notices they're in his neighborhood

"Nothing, just... It's the anniversary."

Uchino:It wasn't even until this was said that Uchino realized what day it was, causing him to peer back down to the floor as the car began to lower

Detective Murakami:"And no one.. Not a single person in the entire station remembered. Twenty two years your father gave. One of the best men there, and I hated him every time I saw his smile." Murakami's voice begins to shake "Eighty nine major cases solved and not a... The only person who even remembered he existed was me. His own son walked past them, was arrested by his own partner and no one, not a... Why all the hero stuff, Uchino?" He gives a sniffle before wiping his eyes "It's because this world needs them. After the war, things seem to have gotten better, people grew used to living like this, but at what cost? No one gives a damn about heroes anymore, Uchino, and that's why we need them now more than ever."

Uchino:He opens the door for Murakami to grab his arm, finishing their conversation with

Detective Murakami:"You take after your father, Uchino. In all the best ways. You're a good man.. I just don't want to see you end up anything like me."

Uchino:"Yeah, well.. I don't want to end up like my father either."

With that, Uchino gets out and slams the door

Kyuu

Chapter 5 // START

Kyuu:A car door sits in the parking lot of Moss Burger before Kyuu exits, walking into the fast-food restaurant, he gets in line before getting a call, taking out his phone, he answers with a monotone voice

"Tessai."

Officer Tessai:"Kyuu, how're you doing?"

Kyuu:"I just picked Daisuke up from the hospital, grabbing some food before I head home."

Officer Tessai:("Oh yeah, how's he doing?"

Kyuu:"Seems fine, met his father, his hero and is finding one of his dreams are on the way to becoming true. He's a little emotional at the moment."

Officer Tessai:("Hope it went well.")

Kyuu:"About as well as I figured it would. Daisuki is.. We're fairly different."

Officer Tessai:("Yeah, sorry to keep you, sounds like you're in a busy place, but is it still alright with Uchino?")

Kyuu:"As long as he understands his part, I can get him in."

Officer Tessai:("Thanks, Kyuu. He'll be at his place.")

Kyuu:The phones makes a couple of beeps as Kyuu looks down to it before saying

"Ries calling."

Officer Tessai:("Alright man, thanks again for the favor.")

Kyuu:Hanging up with Tessai, Kyuu moves to Rie, saying with a little more of a chipper tone than usual

"Hey, Rie."

Rie:"Hey, when are you two getting home?"

Kyuu:"Grabbing something to eat right now, should be back in fifteen minutes."

Rie:"Alright, well, get me something too."

Kyuu:Rie hears someone say something before Kyuu says

"I got to go."

quickly hanging up the phone and putting in his order

Time

Kyuu:During the next morning, Daisuke is awoken by Kyuu tapping his shoulder

"Get ready, we have to leave early."

Daisuke:With the sun not even being up, Daisuke sits up in his bed before turning his alarm off, as he wouldn't need it

Kyuu:"I have to go do something, take a shower and get your stuff ready, give your mom a kiss and say goodbye, I'll be back to pick you up in an hour."

Daisuke:With a nod and a clearing of the throat, Daisuke says, dry mouthed and drowsy

"Alright."

Kyuu:Leaving Daisuke to do his thing, Kyuu leaves the house and drives off

Kyuu:Returning a short while later, Kyuu pulls in the drive way to find Daisuke waiting on the steps, box in hand. Waiting for him to get in the car, Kyuu says as he backs out of the drive way and starts forward

"We're going to be picking up someone else that's going to the school with you."

Daisuke:Looking over with a yawn, Daisuke asks as he turns on the radio

"Who's that?"

Kyuu:"Uchino Hiroyuki, a friend asked if I could take him when I took you."

Daisuke:"His first year too?"

Kyuu:"Yes. I don't expect you to be nice or make friends with him, just tolerate him until I drop you two off."

Daisuke:"Tolerate? What, is he mean or something?"

Kyuu:"He can be rude."

The two talk for a little bit longer before the car comes to a halt , Kyuu parking on the side of the street and looking over the closes apartment building

Daisuke:Looking over aswell, Daisuke sees a boy in a hoodie walking towards the car with a bottle of water, nothing in hand but a backpack as he opens the back door and gets in, as he does Daisuke raises a hand as the kid nods, Kyuu saying

Kyuu:"Daisuke, this is Uchino, Uchino, Daisuke."

With the car shutting, he takes off once again, getting back on the road

Daisuke:"How's your morning?"

Daisuke asks, but after finding no response, he looks back to see Uchino staring out the window, ear buds clouding his hearing as he nods along with whatever was playing. Seeing the new guy isn't paying him any attention, Daisuke looks back out his window, letting time pass
