The Dodel is a menacing creature, reminiscent of a dog in its stance, but with a grotesque twist that makes it a terror in the wasteland. Its body is covered in thick, overlapping scales that shimmer with a dull, metallic sheen, offering it significant protection from the harsh environment and the weapons of survivors. Along its spine, three jagged spikes protrude, each as sharp as a blade and capable of inflicting deep wounds on any prey or foe that comes too close.

Anatomy:

  • Legs: The Dodel possesses two powerful hind legs that allow it to sprint with surprising speed and agility. Its two front legs are shorter but equally muscular, ending in razor-sharp claws that can easily tear through flesh and bone.
  • Middle Arms: A unique feature of the Dodel is its additional set of middle arms. These appendages are shorter and more dexterous, each ending in three long, curved claws that are perfect for gripping and tearing. These arms give the Dodel an unsettling, insectoid appearance and make it even deadlier in close combat.
  • Tail: Its tail is boney and lined with spines, which it uses both as a weapon and a balance mechanism when making quick turns during a chase.

Behavior: Dodels are typically solitary hunters, preferring to stalk their prey under the cover of night or in the shadows of ruined cities. They are highly territorial and will fiercely defend their hunting grounds from intruders, but they rarely attack large groups, recognizing the risk. While they are strong and agile, they lack intelligence, often falling for simple traps or tricks laid by resourceful survivors.

Despite their fearsome nature, Dodels are opportunistic scavengers. They will often steal kills from other predators or raid the remnants of human settlements for anything of value. They drag their finds back to their burrows, which are usually hidden in deep crevices or underground tunnels. A Dodel burrow typically houses five to ten adults, excluding the young, who are fiercely protected by the adults. The burrows are often littered with bones and other remains, creating a gruesome scene for anyone unlucky enough to stumble upon one.

Combat: The Dodel’s jaws are its most terrifying weapon. Capable of crushing bones with a single bite, they can easily rip apart any unprotected victim. Combined with their powerful legs and sharp claws, they are a formidable opponent for any survivor. However, their lack of intelligence means they can be outwitted by clever traps or lured into disadvantageous situations.

Habitat: Dodels thrive in desolate areas, often found lurking around the ruins of old cities or in the vast, barren wastelands. They prefer locations that provide ample hiding spots and are close to a source of food, whether that be a struggling human settlement or the territory of another, less aggressive predator.
