Prol 12 year old Sabani is taken from his home and arrives in Lanai. Introduction
Ch.1 On their 17th birthday the Lanai 20 celebrate Foundance-Day with a massive Festival, this introduces all of our main characters as the leaders of the village explain that the time has finally come for all of them to be sent to _. 1
Ch.2 In preparation for their upcoming journey, Kuremu, Kotaru, and Chikai all finish up their lives. 1
Ch.3 The Lanai 20 set out and make first camp before leaving their home island of Hokkyushu. Initial Waste
Ch.4 Getting separated in the dark, Chikai saves Sabani from a couple of bandits. 2
Ch.5 The group decide to begin traveling down the crags and pass over the lake that separates their island from the rest of the mainland, however half way through the path, Minzukira reveals itself, where Urasadi and Hotonashi are killed. The twenty are broken into two groups. 2

  • Kuremu’s group encountered mercenaries for the first time. Metsuro and Fujishiro who have just ravaged a small town on the outskirts of the city’s borders, which is supposed to be protecting the city’s surface farms. It’s revealed later that the town was stealing from the farms and bullying the farmers.

Ch.9 The group arrive on the outskirts of the city and look for it's entrance. 2

  • Kuremu and group travel the city for the first time, entrapped in it’s glamor, not realizing its dangers.

  • The initiates enlist in becoming Kokujutsunji (formerly Shishibuki), undergoing a series of trials and training for nearly a year. Introduce the sages and animal pacts.

  • Inside the city. A gang terrorizes several bystanders, before Kuremu has to take them out.

  • Inside the city. Escorting a high-clan member, the mission goes well, with Kuremu learning more about the city and its politics.

  • Inside the city. A terrorist is attempting to harm the power to the city, claiming they are performing horrible acts of experimentation and sacrifice. Kuremu is electrocuted here, nearly dying.

Ch.15
  • The first mission outside of the city explores an outer village, which has been taken over by a beastial warlord. Kuremu, Chikai, and Dobutsume arrive to take care of it. The group is officially recognized as Kokujutsunji. One of the sages appears and saves the group from the warlord.

Ch.17
  • A three year timeskip occurs, and the group decides to gather once again, having to go into the undergrounds of the city to find Nomi, who has become a famous underground fighter. After watching his show, the group is ambushed and a fight occurs which sends them falling into a secret caravine beneath the city. At the bottom of the ravine, they find what they initially believe is a massive collection of shimmers, initially thinking they found the bank’s storage, they come to a horrifying reality when they are standing on a crystalized bunker.

  • Several days have passed since the group discovered the crystals, and Kuremu is introduced to sage Ayaka, who he finds in her a form of motherly relationship, being taken into the pearl sea below and finding training with the animals. Chikai is with him during these introductions, and is taken into the pearl sea, too, meeting sage Hisako.
