In the depths of the vast ocean, where the sun's rays struggle to penetrate the murky waters and where mysteries lurk in every shadow, there exists a species of humanoid sharks known as the "Selachians." These enigmatic beings are a fusion of the graceful power of sharks and the cunning intellect of humanoids, dwelling in underwater cities hidden from the prying eyes of surface-dwellers.

Physically, Selachians possess the sleek, streamlined bodies of sharks, adorned with smooth, iridescent scales that shimmer with hues of blue, silver, and violet. Their muscular frames are built for speed and agility, allowing them to effortlessly navigate the ocean currents with unparalleled grace. Their heads are a striking blend of human and shark features; sharp, predatory jaws filled with rows of razor-sharp teeth, piercing eyes that glint with intelligence, and elongated snouts reminiscent of their shark ancestors.

Despite their fearsome appearance, Selachians are a deeply sophisticated and cultured species. Within their underwater cities, constructed from coral, shells, and other marine materials, they have developed a rich society governed by intricate social structures and traditions. Their cities are adorned with intricate sculptures, vibrant murals depicting their history and mythology, and bustling marketplaces where exotic treasures from the depths are traded.

Selachians are highly skilled hunters, utilizing their keen senses and natural agility to stalk prey through the labyrinthine coral reefs and dark abysses of the ocean depths. Yet, they are not mere predators; they possess a profound respect for the delicate balance of the ocean ecosystem and often act as guardians of the seas, maintaining harmony and order within their underwater realms.

Despite their affinity for the ocean depths, Selachians are not isolated from the affairs of the surface world. They possess a complex system of communication, using a combination of telepathy, sonar-like pulses, and intricate body language to interact with other underwater beings and occasionally communicate with surface-dwellers who venture into their domain.

Selachian society is governed by a council of elders, wise individuals who have earned the respect of their peers through acts of bravery, wisdom, and leadership. These elders are responsible for making important decisions regarding the welfare of their people and maintaining diplomatic relations with other underwater civilizations.

However, Selachian society is not without its conflicts and challenges. Rivalries between different clans and factions occasionally erupt into skirmishes, and external threats such as invasive species or pollution from the surface world pose constant challenges to their way of life. Yet, through their resilience, ingenuity, and unwavering sense of community, the Selachians continue to thrive in the mysterious depths of the ocean, a testament to the enduring spirit of these fascinating humanoid sharks.

Biology & Race

Selachiim

The Selachiim are the much darker version of their Selimic cousin, while retaining the ability to breed with both parent species, they are often highly territorial and are considered the apexes of the Mer, with Selachiim often being the leaders in their tribes and occasional schools. While not many are known to gather, there have been a few recorded incidents of Selachiim raiding parties battling the _vikings of the north_.

Selimic

Created ages ago, the Selimic are the first human-shark hybrid and are one of the few hybrid races capable of breeding with both original parent species. They have shark-like features while retaining a human-like body. While most live in isolated communities or just live isolated on their own, some live within human societies.

Thanati

A shark with eight eyes, mandibles and eight legs which rest along the body when they're swimming.
